YOUNG children in the Beragh area have been showcasing their artistic talents on the theme of ‘NHS Heroes’ thanks to an initiative by the local Red Knights GAA club.
Over the past few weeks, scores of submissions have been received by the PRO, Nicola Boyle, on a range of different topics aimed at providing some light relief to all the fears associated with the coronavirus.
One focused on finding the positives of being confined to the indoors, while a second was aimed at illustrating the theme of what was being missed outdoors due to the restrictions. But the latest on the NHS Heroes has really captured the imagination.

“We had been organising a successful arts class at the Community Hub, and then decided to try and keep it going once the restrictions to stop the coronavirus came into effect,” said Nicola.
“It’s all about trying to find something positive to concentrate on and that is why we have chosen the different themes of good things about being indoors and what the children like about being able to get outdoors more during the day.
“The NHS Heroes idea has really struck a chord with everyone and the entries have been coming in very regularly.
“I think everyone knows the importance of recognising the efforts of our frontline health staff and our local young people are illustrating this artistically.”
Entries have been submitted in a range of different formats. One boy made a lego model, another set of brothers did some chalk graffiti outside their home, and there have also been entries on canvass and cushions.
A draw will take place in the next few weeks containing the names of all the entrants, with the winner receiving an Easter Hamper.
“We’re delighted with the response to this and the feedback has been amazing.

“I think people are really enjoying being able to express their thoughts on these topics in an artistic format,” Nicola added.
“There is so much news all about the coronavirus, that it’s great to be able to provide some light relief through this.”
