TWO new commanders have been appointed to take charge of policing in districts covering parts of Tyrone.
The PSNI has appointed Superintendent Mervyn Seffen as the district commander for Fermanagh and Omagh while Supt. Stephen Murray takes charge in Mid Ulster.
Speaking about his appointment Supt. Seffen says, “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity and privilege to lead the policing in the district. I am joining a good, well established team and I look forward to continuing to work with our partners and communities to keep people safe.”

The superintendent had previously served for five years as a chief inspector in Mid Ulster before beginning his new role today.
Supt Seffen added, “I would like to thank T/Supt. Robert McGowan for his work in leading the district for the past number of months, I look forward to carrying on his good work and working with our highly committed officers and police staff in Fermanagh and Omagh to deliver a high quality service that is visible, accessible, responsive and community focused.”

The police service says Supt. Murray brings with him a “wealth of valuable experience” to lead local policing in Mid Ulster.
He said, “In my almost 17 years of service, I have worked in a number of roles, including many in frontline policing and others focused on serious crime.”
“In my new role I am looking forward to working directly with our communities and identifying further opportunities where we can work together to make our district safer.”
